The Naturist Society

The Naturist Society (TNS), founded in 1980 by Lee Baxandall (1935-2008) has been pivotal in promoting body acceptance, personal freedom, and harmony with nature. Through its magazine Nude & Natural, the World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation, national gatherings, and advocacy efforts, TNS has united naturists, fostered public understanding, and defended rights to clothing-optional recreation. Tim Chizmar interviews Nicky Hoffman who has been working with TNS since 1985. She took over the leadership of TNS in 2001 when Lee retired. She was part of a group of staff members that included Margaret Thornton and Judi Ditzler that purchased TNS.

Thank you to the PODCAST PRODUCERS GUILD for recording this interview for Tim.

Family Nudist History

What if you grew up hearing that your great, great, grandfather was known as Rudy The Nudie? That is exactly the experience of Evan Nix who was intrigued enough to start doing some research. He tells us the story of Rudolph Johnson who was a prominent nudist and president of the American Sunbathing Association (ASA and today known as AANR) in 1950-51. You will hear how his research took him from mere curiosity to active naturist participation for his whole family.

Note: This was edited on October 26, 2019 to remove the name and photo of the executive director from the show notes. For personal reasons he no longer wishes to be associated with that part of AANR’s history. We agreed to remove his name so that it would not be indexed by search engines. However the audio interview remains as it provides a relevant record of AANR’s objectives during that period in time.
